SASSA Payment Dates: When Will You Receive Your Grant Money?

Knowing when your SASSA grant will be paid helps you plan your expenses and manage your household budget. SASSA follows a regular payment schedule each month, but dates may vary depending on the type of grant you receive and your chosen payment method. This guide explains all SASSA payment dates, how to check when your money will arrive, and what to do if there are delays.

What You Need to Know About SASSA Payments

  • Payment dates are announced by SASSA at the start of each month
  • Different grants are paid on different days
  • The SRD R370 grant follows a separate payment schedule
  • Your payment method affects how quickly you receive money
  • Public holidays can shift payment dates

SASSA All Grants Payments

SASSA pays several types of social grants to eligible South African citizens. Each grant has specific payment dates during the month, and the amount you receive depends on which grant you qualify for.

Grant Type

SASSA administers the following social grants:

Old Age Pension This grant is for South African citizens aged 60 years and older who pass the means test. Payments are made from the first working day of each month.

Disability Grant For people aged 18 to 59 who are temporarily or permanently unable to work due to a physical or mental disability. Payments begin from the first working day of the month.

Care Dependency Grant Paid to caregivers of children under 18 who require permanent home care due to severe physical or mental disability. Payment dates align with the Child Support Grant schedule.

Foster Child Grant Given to foster parents who care for children placed in their care by a court order. Payments are made from the first working day of the month.

Child Support Grant For primary caregivers of children under 18 years old who pass the means test. Payments are made from the first working day of the month.

Grant-in-Aid This is an additional grant for people who already receive an Old Age Pension, Disability Grant, or War Veterans Grant and need full-time care from another person. It is paid together with the main grant.

War Veterans Grant For South African citizens who fought in World War II or the Korean War and are 60 years or older, or who are disabled due to war service. Payment dates are the same as the Old Age Pension.

Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 Grant A temporary grant for unemployed South Africans aged 18 to 59 who do not receive any other social grant or UIF payment. The SRD grant has its own payment schedule, which is different from other grants and can vary each month

Why SASSA Payment Dates Are Important

Knowing your SASSA payment date helps you plan your monthly budget and avoid financial stress. Here is why payment dates matter:

Budget planning When you know exactly when your grant will be paid, you can plan when to buy groceries, pay rent, settle accounts, and cover other essential expenses. This prevents you from running out of money before your next payment.

Avoid long queues If you collect cash from a pay point, ATM, or retail store, knowing the payment date helps you choose a less busy time to withdraw your money. Going early in the payment cycle or later in the day can save you hours of waiting.

Identify payment problems early If your grant does not arrive on the expected date, you can contact SASSA immediately to find out why. Early detection of problems means faster solutions.

Plan shopping and transport Many people travel to town on payment day to do their monthly shopping. Knowing the date in advance helps you arrange transport and avoid last-minute rushing.

Protect yourself from fraud Scammers often send fake messages claiming your payment date has changed or that you need to verify your details. When you know the official payment schedule, you can identify and ignore these scam messages.

How to Check Your SASSA SRD R370 Payment Date

The SRD R370 grant does not follow the same fixed schedule as other SASSA grants. Payment dates vary depending on when applications are approved and how quickly funds are allocated. Here is how to check when your SRD payment will be made.

  1. Visit the official SASSA SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za

SASSA has a structured payment schedule each month. Different grants are paid on different days to manage the flow of payments and reduce congestion at pay points.

General SASSA payment schedule:

  • Old Age Pension and Disability Grant: Paid from the 1st working day of the month (or the last working day of the previous month if the 1st falls on a weekend or public holiday)
  • Child Support Grant, Care Dependency Grant, and Foster Child Grant: Paid from the 1st working day of the month
  • Grant-in-Aid and War Veterans Grant: Paid together with the main grant from the 1st working day

SRD R370 payment schedule:

The SRD grant does not have a fixed payment day. Payments are processed in batches throughout the month based on:

  • When your application was approved
  • Available budget allocation
  • Your chosen payment method

Most SRD payments are made between the 15th and the end of the month, but this can vary. Some beneficiaries receive payment earlier, while others may wait until the following month if there are verification delays.

Where to find official payment dates:

SASSA announces the exact payment dates at the beginning of each month on:

  • The official SASSA website (www.sassa.gov.za)
  • SASSA social media pages (Facebook and Twitter)
  • SABC news and other media channels

Always check official SASSA sources for accurate payment information. Do not rely on messages from unknown numbers or unofficial social media accounts.

SASSA Payment Methods and Processing Time

SASSA offers several payment methods to make it easier for beneficiaries to access their grant money. The method you choose affects how quickly you receive your payment and where you can collect it.

Bank Deposit

If you have a bank account, SASSA can pay your grant directly into your account. This is the fastest and safest payment method.

How it works:

  1. You provide your bank account details when you apply for your grant or update them at a SASSA office
  2. SASSA verifies your account with your bank
  3. On payment day, the money is transferred electronically to your account
  4. You receive an SMS from your bank confirming the deposit
  5. You can withdraw cash at an ATM, make purchases with your card, or pay bills directly from your account

Processing time:

  • Old Age Pension, Disability Grant, and other regular grants: Money is usually in your account on the 1st working day of the month or the last working day of the previous month
  • SRD R370 grant: Deposits can take 2 to 5 working days after your status changes to “Paid”

Advantages:

  • Fast and secure
  • No need to travel to a pay point
  • No risk of losing cash
  • Easy to budget and track spending

Requirements:

  • You must have a valid South African bank account in your name
  • The account must be active (not closed or frozen)
  • Some banks may charge monthly fees

Cash Wallets

If you do not have a bank account, SASSA can pay your grant into a mobile wallet. This is a digital account linked to your phone number where you can store money and make payments.

Available wallet options for SASSA grants:

  • Shoprite Money Market Account
  • Pick n Pay SASSA Card
  • Boxer Superstores SASSA payments

How it works:

  2. SASSA loads your grant money into the wallet on payment day
  3. You receive an SMS notification when the money is available
  4. You can withdraw cash at participating stores, ATMs, or tills
  5. You can also use the wallet to pay for goods directly without withdrawing cash

  • Money is usually available on the official payment date
  • SRD R370 payments to wallets may take 3 to 7 working days after approval

Advantages:

  • No need for a traditional bank account
  • Withdraw cash at stores close to your home
  • Some wallets have no monthly fees

Disadvantages:

  • Withdrawal fees may apply
  • Limited ATM access compared to major banks
  • You may need to queue at stores on payment day

Retail Stores

SASSA has partnered with major retail chains to allow beneficiaries to collect their grants as cash at store tills or service desks.

Where you can collect cash:

  • Shoprite
  • Checkers
  • Usave
  • Pick n Pay
  • Boxer

How it works:

  1. Wait for your SMS notification confirming your payment is ready

  3. Queue at the customer service desk or designated SASSA pay point
  4. Provide your ID number or swipe your SASSA card
  5. Verify your identity (fingerprint scan or PIN)
  6. Collect your cash from the cashier

Processing time:

  • Risk of carrying large amounts of cash
  • Some stores charge withdrawal fees
  • Limited operating hours (stores close at night and on Sundays)

Safety tips:

  • Do not share your PIN or password with anyone
  • Count your money at the till before leaving
  • Put your cash away safely and avoid showing it in public
  • Go home directly after collecting your money
  • If possible, go with a trusted friend or family member

What If Your SASSA SRD R370 Payment Is Delayed?

If your SRD R370 payment does not arrive on the expected date, do not panic. Delays can happen for several reasons, and there are steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Common reasons for payment delays:

  1. Verification delays – SASSA is still checking your details with other government departments like UIF, Home Affairs, or banking systems
  2. Budget allocation – SASSA may be waiting for additional funding from National Treasury to process all approved payments
  3. Incorrect banking details – If your bank account information is wrong or outdated, the payment will fail
  4. System errors – Technical problems with SASSA’s payment system can cause temporary delays
  5. Your account status changed – If you became employed, started receiving UIF, or got another grant, SASSA may have stopped your SRD payments
  6. High volumes – During peak months, millions of payments are processed, which can slow down the system

What to do if your payment is delayed:

Step 1: Check your status online

  • Visit srd.sassa.gov.za and log in with your ID and phone number
  • Check if your status still shows “Approved – Awaiting Payment” or if it has changed to “Declined” or “Pending”
  • If declined, check the reason and submit an appeal if the decline was incorrect

Step 2: Wait 10 working days

  • SRD payments can take up to 10 working days after approval to be processed
  • Do not contact SASSA immediately; give the system time to complete the payment

Step 3: Verify your payment method

  • If you chose bank deposit, confirm your account details are correct
  • Log in to your bank account or check with your bank to see if the deposit failed
  • If you chose a cash wallet, make sure your phone number is active and correct

Step 4: Call the SASSA call centre

  • After 10 working days, call 0800 60 10 11 (toll-free)
  • Explain that your approved payment has been delayed
  • Provide your ID number and reference number
  • Ask the consultant to check your payment status and give you an update
  • Take note of any reference number or advice given

Step 5: Visit a SASSA office

  • If calling does not resolve the issue, visit your nearest SASSA office
  • Bring your ID document and any SMS notifications from SASSA
  • Request to speak to a SASSA official about your delayed payment
  • Ask them to investigate and provide a written response or follow-up date

Step 6: Check for failed payments

  • Sometimes payments fail due to incorrect bank details and are returned to SASSA
  • Ask SASSA to check if your payment was rejected by the bank
  • If so, update your banking information and request a reprocessing

Step 7: Be patient but persistent

  • Follow up every 7 to 10 days if the issue is not resolved
  • Keep records of all calls, visits, and reference numbers
  • Do not reapply for the same month; this can cause confusion and further delays

When to be concerned:

  • Your status changed from “Approved” to “Declined” without explanation
  • More than 30 days have passed since your approval
  • SASSA cannot give you any information about your payment
  • You suspect fraud or that someone else accessed your grant

If you believe your payment was stolen or fraudulently diverted, report it to SASSA immediately and open a case at your nearest police station.

For the most accurate and up-to-date payment information, always check the official SASSA website at www.sassa.gov.za or call the SASSA call centre at 0800 60 10 11.
